Crisis Line Volunteer Specialist Training
GOALS FOR THE COURSE: The primary goal is to teach the skills necessary for telephone crisis intervention and listening skills. Personal growth and enrichment are inherent to the program. To reach optimum skill level, all lectures and skill groups must be attended and the textbook should be read carefully.
FORMAT: The classroom component (schedule below) includes lecture, discussion and skill group sessions (about 30 hours). Additional components of the training include observation session(s) and supervised internships (12 hours). There is also text material reading requirements outside of class.
All courses are available for bi-lingual (Spanish/English) volunteers.
VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT: CONTACT asks a minimum of two four-hour shifts each month, with an option to serve a weekly shift. Continuing education opportunities are offered and required throughout the year at no charge, along with annual recertification.
COST: $35 or $25 for students and senior citizens (55 +), to help defray costs of background check and training materials. If the fee is an obstacle to your volunteering, please let us know as we do have scholarship funds available.
Internships available for undergraduate and graduate level students in psychology, social work, marketing, and counseling programs.
